The Nancy Lopez Legacy Country Club has the most unique story of any of the Country Clubs in The Villages. The entire club is dedicated to Hall of Fame Golfer Nancy Lopez, who also happens to be a resident of The Villages.
Upon arrival, you will notice that the clubhouse and pro shop were designed with Nancy in mind. The clubhouse is decorated with photos and memorabilia from her illustrious golf career, and the pro shop stocks some of her favorite club brands and clothing. The pro shop also stocks a line of jewelry and accessories from Brighton.
The Nancy Lopez Legacy Country Club is not just for the golf enthusiasts though. It also features a pool, tennis courts, and a fantastic restaurant.
The Golf Course
In keeping with the theme of the club, the golf course was actually designed by Nancy Lopez. This was her first attempt at designing a course. It is a 27-hole course that contains three 9-hole courses that are named after her three daughters. Each of the holes features five sets of tees, and many are either lined with oak trees or surrounded by water. The club also features a first class practice facility with available instruction from PGA professionals.
The shortest of the three courses is the Torri Pines course, which totals 3385 yards from the black tees. The par-four third hole on this course is a slight dogleg right where the green is almost completely surrounded by sand. The par-four sixth hole has a similar angle and distance, but this time it is water that surrounds the green. Both holes will require an almost perfect approach shot.
The Ashley Meadows course features the largest body of water next to its first hole. Despite its size, this hazard is not difficult to avoid. The smaller water features that surround the greens of the par-four sixth hole and the par-three eight hole will be much harder to avoid.
The longest of the three courses is the Erinn Glenn course. Ironically, it features two incredibly difficult par-three holes. On both the second and sixth holes, you will have to hit your tee shot over water and then avoid a bunker in front of the green on the second hole and behind the green on the sixth hole. This combination of water and sand leaves virtually no room for error.
The Legacy Restaurant
The restaurant at The Nancy Lopez Legacy Country Club is a little bit more elegant than the typical country club restaurant at The Villages. In order to ensure that they are using only the best ingredients, the restaurant has formed partnerships with suppliers like Tanglewood Farms, Harris Ranch, The Honolulu Fish Company, and Thurmann’s.
The restaurant offers a lunch menu Monday through Saturday and a dinner menu every evening. There is also a Sunday brunch menu that is available from 10 AM to 3 PM every Sunday.
The lunch menu contains a number of flatbreads, salads, sandwiches and burgers. The brunch menu is very impressive, featuring items like the Sausage Gouda Omelet and Norwegian Eggs Benedict.
The dinner menu is equally impressive. It features all-natural chicken dishes, a fantastic steak filet dish, and fresh fish that is flown in daily from The Honolulu Fish Company. There are also a number of chef specialties like The Legacy Chop, Veal and Wild Mushroom Meatloaf, and Veal Piccata.
Located at the northern end of Buena Vista Blvd, The Nancy Lopez Country Club is one of the most unique country clubs that The Villages has to offer. Between Nancy’s golf memorabilia, the impressive pro shop, the creative and interesting golf course, and the first-class restaurant, there are a number of reasons that this is a country club that you absolutely must visit.
